Application of HPLC-DAD for the quantification of Lycorine in Galanthus elwesii Hook BJPS
Emir,Ahmet; Emir,Ceren; Bozkurt,Buket; Onur,Mustafa Ali; Somer,Nehir Unver; Kaya,Gulen Irem.
ABSTRACT In the present study, a reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method has been used for the quantitative determination of lycorine in the aerial parts and bulbs of G. elwesii Hook. A simple method for the extraction of lycorine in low mass plant samples was employed utilizing pre-packed columns with diatomaceous earth (Extrelut(r)). The chromatographic separation was performed using an isocratic system with a mobile phase of trifluoroacetic acid-water-acetonitrile (0.01:92.5:7.5, v/v/v) applied at a flow rate 1 mL min-1 using diode array detector. The content of lycorine in the bulbs and aerial parts of G. elwesii collected from Demirci (Manisa) was found as 0.130 and 0.162 %, respectively. Additionally, in the bulbs of the...

Caracterização preliminar de acessos do gênero Habranthus (Amaryllidaceae). Infoteca-e

Effects of light on the propagation and growth of bulbs of Hippeastrum hybridum cv. Apple Blossom (Amaryllidaceae) Scientia Agricola
Stancato,G.C.; Mazzafera,P..
Commercially bulbs of Hippeastrum hybridum are propagated by twin scales, which are cultured in wet vermiculite in the darkness until bulbil appearance. We showed that twin scales kept under sun light produced bulbils, that once transferred to the field, did not undergo severe light stress. They had higher bulb dry weight and due to the presence of green leaves they grew faster when transplanted to the field than bulbils produced from scales kept in the darkness. An intermediary treatment (a period of darkness followed by transference to light) confirmed the advantages of producing bulbils under sun light conditions. It appears that in the field, growth of bulbs from dark grown bulbils was retarded due to the strong competition among leaves and roots for...

Genetic variation within three populations of Phycella australis (Phil.) Ravenna from Biobío Region, Chile, evaluated using ISSR markers Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Flores,Cristian; Delaveau,Catherine; Alvarez,Carolina; Vergara,Dafne; Baeza,Carlos; Ruiz,Eduardo; Uribe,Matilde.
Phycella australis (Phil.) Ravenna is a Chilean plant with high ornamental potential; however, the intensive extraction as a cut flower might be detrimental for the conservational state by ignoring the state of genetic variation. The objective of this investigation was to assess genetic variability within and between three populations of P. australis in the Biobío Region using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. The evaluated areas correspond to three locations in the province of Concepción, Biobío Region: Desembocadura (36°48' S, 73°10' W), Santa Juana (36°58' S, 72°58' W), and Lipinhue (37°00' S, 72°58' W). Six ISSR primers were used obtaining 51 fragments, from which 72.5% were polymorphic. From the three evaluated sites Santa Juana showed a...

Hippeastrum species in areas of restinga in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: pollen characters Acta Botanica
Candido,Renata Suzano; Fourny,Ana Carolina da Silva; Gonçalves-Esteves,Vania; Lopes,Rosana Conrado.
The order Asparagales comprises 14 families, five of which occur in Brazil. Amaryllidaceae is a family of economic relevance and includes numerous ornamental genera. The genus Hippeastrum is widely distributed in Brazil and comprises 34 species, 11 of which occur in areas of restinga (coastal woodland) and Atlantic Forest in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The morphology of Hippeastrum has not been extensively studied in Brazil, where only a few systematic floristic surveys have been carried out with native species. In field studies and reviews of herbarium collections, we identified five Hippeastrum species occurring in areas of restinga in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The five species identified could be distinguished according to the following...

Intrapopulational chromosome number variation in Zephyranthes sylvatica Baker (Amaryllidaceae: Hippeastreae) from Northeast Brazil Rev. Bras. Bot.
Felix,Winston J. P.; Dutilh,Julie H. A.; Melo,Natoniel F. de; Fernandes,Andrea A.; Felix,Leonardo P..
Zephyranthes Herb. is a taxonomically complex and cytologically variable group, with about 65 species of Neotropical distribution. Chromosome number variability in 32 individuals of a Zephyranthes sylvatica population from Northeast Brazil was investigated. Three cytotypes were found: 2n = 12 (one metacentric, four submetacentric and one acrocentric pairs), in 24 individuals; 2n = 12 + 1B, in five and three individuals with 2n = 18, a triploid cytotype. All diploid individuals showed chromosomes with polymorphism in pair one and two, while in triploids this polymorphism was observed in all chromosome triplets, generally with two homomorphic chromosomes and a higher or lower heteromorphic chromosome. All individuals had reticulated interfasic nucleus and a...
